Finding a urologist who is right for you

Finding the right urologist for you is extremely important. Together with other specialist a urologist usually is the person who biopsies your prostate and orders the tests and examinations necessary to determine if you have prostate cancer, and if you do, defines and stages your cancer. The urologist tells what your treatment options are, the pros, cons, benefits, risks, side effects, complication, and what you and expect after treatment. Usually  your personal doctor recommends and refers you to a urologist. You should be sure and get a second or more opinions on your cancer and its treatment.

You can get referrals by talking to others with prostate cancer,by talking to support groups and by searching the Internet Web sites. You can get help by contacting cancer agencies.

The AUA directory can help

The American Urological Association (AUA) is the professional association for urologists. Their web site provides an on-line directory service to find a urologist. All the urologists listed in on-line directory are certified by the American Board of Urology. In addition each urologist is committed to continuing education and patient care.

Disclaimer:
The names in this directory are practicing urologists, who are members of the AUA. The AUA does not warrant the accuracy, currency, nor completeness of the information in the directory. Provision of the list of names and addresses is not considered an endorsement by the AUA.
There are two ways to search for a urologist.

Their web site will then provide you with a map showing numbered dots where the doctors are located. Below the map is a list of doctors addresses and phone numbers. Clicking on the small map next to the doctors information will give you an enlarged map of the doctor's location.
