"By listening to each other, we learn we can take control of own special circumstances."
|
The Survivors Association was launched more than a decade ago by a group of men who wanted to share their questions and concerns about prostate cancer with those who already faced it.
The group met in private homes, churches and hospitals for monthly presentations with medical professionals and other experts. Today,The Survivors has joined forces with Gilda's Club Grand Rapids and the men call the Clubhouse home base.
Men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer or want to learn more about it are welcome to drop in or call in advance for the meeting topic. Loved ones and friends are always welcome to attend, as well.
The Survivors and Gilda's Club have developed and co-host five different monthly activities focused on prostate cancer.
Besides monthly networking meetings, Survivor members are available to talk one-to-one and many volunteer within the community to raise awareness about prostate cancer. The group also supports a variety of activities related to prostate screening and research.
Survivor members are invited to participate in the full-range of the Gilda's Club program which includes activities from Arts to Zen meditation, medical seminars, informal discussion groups, community potlucks, nutrition classes and much more. Members have access to the library, game room, art room and the demonstration kitchen. Family and friends are also welcome to participate in all Gilda's Club programming.
For more information on how to get connected, contact Gilda's Club and mention you are interested in the prostate networking group and other activities available.
